Vrbnik, Baška and Krk Town: Which Places on Krk Should You Visit?
Updated October 25, 2026 · 4 min read
If you have one day, choose two places rather than collecting three. Krk Town is the easiest introduction to the island’s history, Vrbnik has the strongest wine and Glagolitic identity, and Baška combines an old centre with a long pebble beach and a mountain-framed bay.
Krk Town for the first stop
Krk Town gives you walls, narrow lanes and a waterfront without committing to a long detour. It works best in the morning or late afternoon, when you can walk rather than hunt for a checklist. This is the practical choice for travellers staying nearby and for anyone who wants cafés and history in the same stop.
Vrbnik for character
Vrbnik sits on a cliff on Krk’s east coast. The island tourist board highlights its Glagolitic heritage, old stone lanes and the local Žlahtina grape grown in Vrbničko polje. Come for the setting and cultural identity, not merely for the often-mentioned narrow street.
Wine tasting changes the transport decision. If everyone wants to taste, use a driver or an organised visit rather than deciding later who drives. The biodynamic winery visit with tasting starts at €45, lasts 1.5 hours and has 47 reviews.
Baška for landscape and beach
Baška lies in a steep-sided valley in the south-east. Its Vela Plaža stretches for about 1,800 metres, and the sea deepens gradually in parts. The town is the best choice when the group wants both a settlement and a beach, though summer parking and traffic can consume time.
The route that makes sense
Pair Krk Town with Vrbnik for history, lanes and food. Pair Vrbnik with Baška for the stronger landscape day. Trying all three means repeated parking and less time in each place. In summer, start early and make Baška either the first or final stop rather than arriving in the busiest middle of the day.
Public transport can work for a single destination, but a multi-stop day needs careful timetable checking. If you drive, compare car hire for Krk only when the route genuinely requires it, and have the non-drinker drive after a tasting.
Our recommendation
For a first day, walk Krk Town and continue to Vrbnik. Choose Baška instead of Krk Town when beach and mountain scenery matter more than historic streets. More land-based ideas appear under things to do in Krk.
