Krk Cheese, Wine and Olive Oil: Which Tasting Should You Book?

Updated October 25, 2026 · 5 min read

Rows of vines in Vrbnik field below the stone village on Krk

Choose the Vrbnik cellar tasting if wine is the reason for your visit; choose the Lakmartin dairy tour if you want a shorter, food-led experience. The biodynamic cellar tour with food pairing lasts 1.5 hours, starts at €45 and has 47 reviews. The guided cheese-factory visit and tasting lasts one hour, starts at €20 and has 40 reviews.

Three products, three different visits

Vrbnička Žlahtina is the island’s characteristic dry white wine, grown in Vrbnik field. A cellar visit gives it context: the vineyard, production choices and a guided tasting. The listed experience includes food pairing, but check the current menu and dietary options on the booking page rather than assuming every local product appears.

Krk cheese is traditionally associated with sheep’s milk. A dairy tour is more concrete and shorter: you see where the product is made and taste it without building a whole afternoon around wine. It is the better choice for a mixed group in which not everyone drinks, although the operator’s current tasting contents still need checking.

Olive oil belongs at the table, but the current Krk selection does not contain a dedicated olive-grove tour. Look for a producer tasting or buy from a specialist shop; do not book a wine experience expecting a full olive-oil lesson unless it is explicitly listed.

Who should book what?

The cellar suits couples, wine enthusiasts and anyone already visiting Vrbnik. The dairy works well for travellers with less time and for drivers who do not want an alcohol-focused activity. Families should confirm the dairy’s minimum age, supervision requirements and exact tasting before paying; no shared age rule applies to every producer.

If you drive to a wine tasting, appoint a driver who does not drink or arrange a taxi. The old centre of Vrbnik has narrow streets, so follow the operator’s arrival and parking instructions rather than aiming for the tasting-room door.

What else is worth tasting

Krk’s food identity extends beyond the three headline products. Šurlice are hand-rolled pasta, often served with lamb or a seafood sauce; presnac is a pastry filled with sheep’s cheese, often served as a festive dessert. Local menus also feature fish, scampi, lamb and Krk prosciutto. These are reasons to leave space for a konoba meal, not promises that they are included in either booked tasting.

Our recommendation

For most first-time visitors, the Vrbnik cellar tour and food pairing offers the strongest sense of place. Choose the cheese-factory visit when time is short or wine is not the focus. For a wider day out, combine either with our guide to Vrbnik, Baška and Krk’s most interesting towns.
